Hi, I’m Cody. I was born and raised in Herrin, a small town in southern Illinois, where I grew up with my parents, my older brother and our younger sister. My interest in medicine started at an early age, because my mother is a nurse. I had many opportunities throughout high school to spend time with a local family physician. Being from a small town, I had the opportunity to see the impact family physicians had in the local community. Ultimately, these experiences led to my path towards a career in family medicine. After meeting several people from the program in Kansas City, I knew Memorial would provide me with the broad spectrum training I desired. The interview and second-look experiences made me feel as if I would be a great fit in the program.
I stayed in southern Illinois for my undergraduate studies at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. With the support of my family, I continued on to medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. I was a member of the Rural Medical Education Program (RMED), and this program furthered my interest in full-spectrum family medicine. When I visited South Bend for my interview, I knew immediately that it was a natural fit. I am very excited to be in South Bend! I am looking forward to playing some of the great local golf courses, fishing in the river and Lake Michigan and exploring the city with my girlfriend, Becca and my dog, Maddy.
