Hometown: Kankakee, IL
Bio: Hi, I’m Garrett Muhlstadt and I was born and raised in Kankakee, Illinois. I met my wife while going to school at Olivet Nazarene University. As a critical care nurse, my wife has given me many tips on how to get in nurses’ good graces (which I use each and every day on the floor).
I am very interested in integrating medicine and engineering in order to better serve our patients (both inside and outside of the clinic).
My wife and I have a call to missions and will work with the underserved wherever the Lord leads us. Through training, I’ve come to like MAT and plan to incorporate this into practice in the future as well.
Why Memorial:
After visiting programs all over the country, we chose Memorial because we felt it was the place where I could gain the best broad-spectrum training while still supporting my family during this challenging season of training. The only way the rigor and support can be balanced this well is through the hard work of my faculty and co-residents. I truly couldn’t find a better place with better people.
Hobbies: 3d printing, any sport, board games
Favorite quotes: “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less,” C.S. Lewis
Favorite books: 2000, a space odyssey (Arther C. Clark), Mere Christianity (C.S. Lewis)
Favorite thing to do/place to go in South Bend/Mishawaka: Go to all of the amazing parks w/ my kids (seriously, the splash pad game is strong here. Not to mention the playgrounds, zoos, trails, etc..)
