Hi there! I’m James Handtke. I grew up in Northwest Indiana in a town called Demotte. I went to school at Huntington University in Indiana to play some soccer and get a degree in Biology, and from there left my beloved Hoosier state for 4 years to attend Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University. While in medical school, I quickly learned I had a passion for all things family medicine. I loved the idea of having career-long patients, practicing preventative medicine, and encouraging healthy lifestyles. I am so very happy to have ended up at Memorial Hospital for my residency training because I know the values of the program match up closely with mine.
In my free time, I love to spend time with my wife and dog doing anything we can to get outside. I recently started racing my road bike and just got a mountain bike as well (Be warned: if we start talking about this in an appointment, we might not accomplish anything else!). If I’m not outside, I am probably trying to put together something tasty in the kitchen. I love to have fun, joke around, and work with others to make healthy choices enjoyable.
