Mitchell Stein, Pharm.D., BCCCP (mjstein@beaconhealthsystem.org) is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Critical Care and the Residency Program Director. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan and completed his PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Ascension Borgess Hospital. Dr. Stein is involved with critical care operations, emergency medical services, and code blue/stroke response teams. His areas of interest include critical care, stroke, and infectious disease. Outside of work he enjoys hunting, fishing, and woodworking.
Amy Bower, Pharm.D., BCPS (acbower@beaconhealthsystem.org) is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Internal Medicine and serves as the clinical coordinator at Beacon Kalamazoo. She was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada and completed part of her undergraduate training at Lake Superior State University. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Ferris State University. Her current areas of interest include oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, and neurology.
Katherine Montgomery, Pharm.D., BCCP (kmontgomery2@beaconhealthsystem.org) is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in cardiology. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy in Pittsburgh, PA and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Ascension Borgess Hospital. She covers the inpatient cardiac unit and is the chair of the hospital Medication Safety Committee. Her areas of interest include heart failure, anticoagulation, and antimicrobial stewardship.
Reagan Smith, Pharm.D. (rsmith10@beaconhealthsystem.org) is a clinical pharmacist in the inpatient pharmacy at Beacon Kalamazoo. She obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Husson University and fulfilled her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Ascension Borgess Hospital. Dr. Smith is trained in many areas of the inpatient pharmacy, including order verification, IV room, OR, and critical care. Her administrative experience derives from leading the department’s Model Community initiative and spearheading scheduling. Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her two sons, learning new facts about animals, and baking!
Megan Brooks, Pharm.D. (mbrooks3@beaconhealthsystem.org) is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Emergency Medicine/Critical Care. She obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The Ohio State University and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Critical Care Residency at the Detroit Medical Center. Her current areas of interest are ACLS, stroke, and pain management.
Cailyn Evans, Pharm.D. (cevans@beaconhealthsystem.org) is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infectious Diseases. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Wayne State University and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Ascension St. John Hospital, followed by a PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency at the Oklahoma City VA. Her areas of interest include gram-negative resistance, invasive fungal infections, and optimization of antimicrobial therapy.
Guadalupe (Lupe) Chavez, Pharm.D., BCACP (gchavez@beaconhealthsystem.org) serves as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist – Ambulatory Care with Beacon Medical Group Michigan. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2021 from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and completed two years of residency training with The University of Utah Health. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys OrangeTheory Fitness, dancing, and visiting her hometown of Davenport, Iowa.
Kelsey Ernst, Pharm.D., BCACP (kernst@beaconhealthsystem.org) is a clinical pharmacy specialist in ambulatory care at Beacon Plainwell, Allegan, and Gobles Clinics. She completed pharmacy school at the Ferris State University College of Pharmacy and PGY1 residency in community pharmacy and PGY2 residency in ambulatory care at University of Michigan Health. Her current areas of interest are diabetes, geriatrics, polypharmacy, and rural healthcare. Outside of work she enjoys mountain biking, hiking, and gardening.
Nathan L Kanous II, Pharm.D., BCPS (nlkanous@beaconhealthsystem.org) is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Ambulatory Care in the Beacon Kalamazoo Heart Failure Clinic and the Westside and Three Rivers Family Practice Clinics. He received his PharmD from Ferris State University and completed an ASHP-accredited ambulatory care residency at the William S. Middleton Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Madison, Wisconsin. Since graduation, Nathan has worked in many practice settings including academia, the pharmaceutical industry, pharmacy benefits and managed care. His clinical interests focus on heart failure, endocrinology, geriatrics, and de-prescribing.
Ryan Bickel, Pharm.D., MHA, FASHP (rrjbickel@beaconhealthsystem.org) serves as the Director of Pharmacy Services for Beacon Kalamazoo, which also includes two critical access hospitals, a specialty hospital, and two retail pharmacies. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University and his Master of Health Administration degree from Simmons College in Boston, MA. Dr. Bickel completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, MI, and is a diplomate of the ASHP Pharmacy Leadership Academy. Prior to his current role, he has worked as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director, and Pharmacy Manager. His primary areas of interest are pharmacy leadership, medication safety, quality improvement, antimicrobial stewardship, and emergency management.
