I was born and raised in Winamac, IN – a small town about one hour from South Bend. My rural background, mixed with a strong interest in medicine, helped foster a passion for rural health care. I did my undergraduate years at Butler University, where I met my wife Marielle. After graduation, I moved on to Indiana University School of Medicine, where I took place in the school’s Rural Health Program located at their Terre Haute campus. I also elected to take part in the MD-MPH program, which added an additional year of training in public health, focusing on health policy. Marielle has been a schoolteacher for the past five years. We were married after my third year of medical school and currently live outside of South Bend in Osceola, IN with our Bernedoodle puppy, the current center of our lives.
Memorial really offered the whole package: intensive inpatient training, broad and diverse patient population, uncontested OB experience and numerous procedure training opportunities. Plus, the faculty and residents really seemed to enjoy each other – suggesting a warm and supportive culture that feels like home. My favorite hobbies are cooking, hiking, traveling and jogging.
