Rural Primary Care – Rural Curriculum

Outpatient care in rural communities has a decidedly different “feel” than in non-rural communities.  Available resources are sometimes less robust, medical teams need to be especially flexible and nimble, and the intimacy of the doctor-patient relationship is often deeper than in suburban and urban populations.  This rotation pairs the resident with a rural medical practice within 30 minutes of the residency program for an in-depth look at these unique features of rural practice.  Resident continuity clinics are still held at the E. Blair Warner Family Medicine Center but these shifts are aligned to allow longer stretches of dedicated time in the rural outpatient setting.
