Hometown: Swea City, IA
Bio: My name is Jacob Alexander Braddock. I am originally from Swea City, Iowa. This is a very rural area. It was in this setting that I first became interested in family medicine – the ability to practice broad-spectrum, provide care to underserved areas, and to provide cradle-to-grave care. I went to undergraduate college at Buena Vista University – a small private school in Storm Lake, Iowa. I then went to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. I was part of their 3-year accelerated program – Primary Care Scholars Pathway – which allowed me to complete medical school in 3 years rather than the traditional 4 years because of my interest in family medicine. Following the MATCH, I found myself at Altoona Family Physicians in Altoona, Pennsylvania which is part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center health system. I have a special interest in obstetrics and am excited to be joining the 1-year surgical obstetrics fellowship position at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana. My ultimate goal is to practice full scope family medicine in a rural area.
Why Memorial: The residency program has a longstanding commitment to training family physicians to be able to provide care from cradle-to-grave. They also have a surgical OB Fellowship which will allow me to provide the best care possible to my patients in rural practice.
