Hometown: Mishawaka
Bio: My story starts with a 26-year-old man leaving his home country of India and his wife of just three months to prepare a better life for them in the US. My dad and mom rejoined a couple years later and started a family in Chicago. Just weeks after I was born, we moved to a town near South Bend where I would spend the next 18 years of my life building many of my dearest relationships and curating an interest in the medical field. When I finally left the nest, I found myself pursuing the Rural Health Program at Indiana State University. I left ISU with far more than a degree – it was here that I found some of my best friends including one I would call my wife. Darcie and I got married after college and would spend the next 4 years growing together through her first years as a registered dietitian and my time in medical school. With the help of our golden doodle, Nora, and no shortage of grace from God, we pulled through those first few years together and then decided we needed to add another to our team. Along came Meelah Jo Antony in 2021. The four of us have now travelled back to where it all began for me in South Bend living just a couple of minutes from the house I grew up in. Of note, I mention my parents in this bio because I attribute much of my success to their love and sacrifice. Like them, I could list many people in each of the sentences above who were crucial in carrying me to the position I am in today. I could not list them all in this short bio, but I will honor them by saying that everything I do as a physician is token to them. I am paying it forward just as it was done for me.
Why Memorial: My residency search was guided by one major goal stratified by three principles. Recognizing that I only had 3 years of residency to prepare me for the rest of my life as an independent physician, my goal was to find a program that would provide the optimal learning environment. This meant I needed an environment that 1) nurtured community and support between residents, attendings, and staff, 2) offered a rigorous but manageable workload, and (3) had enough resources and exposure that I could learn full-spectrum family medicine. During my interview and 4th year rotation at Memorial these qualities shone like nowhere else I had been, and I was sure this was the place I wanted to complete my training.
