Managed Care

At the completion of this block, the resident will have developed an understanding of:

  •         The role of IT in practice management
  •         The role of IT in performance analysis and quality
  •         Population health assessment
  •         Future trends in IT
  •         The physician leader’s role in advancing IT-based goals across a health system
  •         The EMR: friend or foe – how it works and how it’s supposed to work

Residents should ideally:

  •         Spend significant time with the CIO and CMIO
  •         Spend some time in the Help Center
  •         Be engaged with any new technology roll-outs happening within Beacon while on this rotation
  •         Engage with those overseeing Customer Experience and Digital Advancement technologies
  •         Engage with those working on telehealth technologies for Beacon
  •         Meet with those charged with onboarding physicians new to Beacon
  •         As appropriate, meet with those outside of Beacon doing similar things in their organization
  •         Meet or talk with individuals in organizations that they foresee themselves working with in their early career
  •         Discuss this topic with regional or national leaders in this field as they may be available through faculty or resident connections
