Hometown: South Bend, IN
Bio: Hello! My name is Leah, and I am thrilled to be returning to my hometown of South Bend to complete my Family Medicine residency. I never strayed too far from home, completing my undergraduate degree at Indiana University in Bloomington, my M.S. in Biology at IUPUI, and finally my D.O. in Kirksville, MO. I’ve always enjoyed the thrill of meeting and bonding with new people. Starting at a new school in 1st grade, I proudly told my mom about my ambitious aim: to know the names of everyone in the school by the end of the year. It didn’t take long after starting medical school to settle on pursuing Family Medicine, the specialty that encompasses everything while focusing on the personal relationship with each patient. That desire was further solidified when I fell in love with every rotation I had during 3rd and 4th year. Family Medicine allows you to do it all!
Why Memorial: I’ve been keenly aware of the exceptional training Memorial’s residency has to offer since my mom worked closely with the residents as an OBGYN at Michiana Obstetrics and Gynecology. However, my audition rotation with the program solidified that desire by showcasing the well-rounded experience the residents have, with a combination of clinic at E Blair Warner, unopposed opportunities on the OB and pediatrics floor, and the wide range of patients seen in Internal Medicine. All of this, combined with the supportive culture cultivated within the program itself, had me sold.
