Bio: Hello everyone! My name is Morgan Lain and I’m a proud Michiana native from Elkhart, Indiana. I’m incredibly excited to be part of the Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program. I graduated from Concord High School in Elkhart and traveled to the not-so-far-off land of Mishawaka, Indiana for my undergraduate education at Bethel University where I studied Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and found my passion for medicine. There I met my lovely wife, Tyler Lain, who now teaches third grade at the elementary school that I once attended. During the season between graduating from Bethel and starting medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) in South Bend, my wife and I served as Co-Creative Arts Directors at a local church plant. In that role, we wore many hats – worship leaders, tech crew, event organizers, and even the occasional electricians and interior designers—but most meaningfully, we worked to cultivate a culture of belonging. We worked diligently to create an atmosphere that empowered all people, including our congregants who were unhoused, to worship while feeling secure, seen and valued. That experience deeply shaped the kind of physician I sought to be: one who prioritizes their community and creates space for vulnerability, connection, trust, safety, and belonging. After discovering its concordant ethos and broad spectrum of practice in medical school, Family Medicine was the clear decision.
Why Memorial: As a medical student from IUSM South Bend, the majority of my clerkships took place at Memorial Hospital. Many of them had us working closely with the Family Medicine program’s residents. I found myself frequently thinking, “Wow! I hope I become even half the doctor that they are!” I meant this for multiple reasons. They were incredibly intelligent, but even more important to me, they were intentional, compassionate, and deep, mission-driven thinkers. This was true for the residents all the way up to the faculty. Additionally, I wanted training that would push me and truly make me the best family physician I could become, all while serving the community of Michiana that I know and
Clinical interests: Full-spectrum primary care, medical education, and point-of-care ultrasound.
Hobbies: Exercising, whether that be resistance training, running, walking, hiking, disc golf, or team sports. Playing guitar and covering my favorite musicians (currently Jon Bellion, Noah Kahan, and Chris Renzema)/creating my own music. Also, reading and cooking!
